Case Study: How we turned a twitter account around?

We turned this twitter account from spiralling out of control, having a negative follower count month on month to smashing every record held against the account in less than a month.

After just 1 month, we achieved:

  • Highest ever Monthly Impressions
  • Highest ever Monthly Profile Views
  • Downtrend reversal on Follower Count

Back in July, we were approached by Footy Tipster to assist with their Twitter Page & other Social Media pages. The subscription based website had 95% of their leads generated through twitter, the business had been running for 8 years and had a twitter following of 24,300.

The problem was their followers weren’t increasing, in fact upon closer inspection their follower count was decreasing & had been consistently for 18 months.

The approach was a cry for help, their last chance. With the football season approaching early August, we had less than a month to get the work done and see some results.

With time against us, both parties agreed to take the LEAN approach, use the time we had to test the waters on what worked, what didn’t work & analyse every single tweet to find where we an make improvements for the next tweet.

We performed a quick competitor analysis, complied a list of example content we believe would work & set them on their way. We ignored the analytics on the current posts are we could see something wasn’t quite right. Every post from now on would be closely analysed to see what worked & what failed to get engagements.

The Results

New Followers

Since Feb 2020, 16/18 months had resulted in a negative follower count and the 2 months with a positive count totalled a measly 39 followers combined. This was also the case in 2019 however twitter only show limited stats prior to Feb 2020.

We achieved a complete reversal. With the data visualised, its easy to see the rapid change in results after only 1 month.

Impressions

The accounts record monthly impressions meant that we saw an 538% increase on the previous month. But it’s when the data is combined with Profile Views you can see we absolutely smashed it out of the park.
All previous 18 months were fairly similar with a couple of anomaly’s.

And you might be thinking, more impressions, there’s probably more tweets. That wasn’t the case. The results were from the more targeted content at the correct audience.

While Impressions increases reach, a profile view is bringing the customer within 1 click of the website link in the bio. Profile Views are essential to generating leads. Conversion is a numbers game, to earn more revenue you must increase the chances of click through & also increase traffic
